Questions about the campaign:
Why is the campaign called ‘UNITE’?
- As God continues to bless here at Grace we need to respond to His work in our midst. We are calling everyone to respond in the following ways: Grow, Pray, Volunteer, Evangelize, Give. This response cannot come from just a few. In requires all of us who call Grace Church our home to UNITE together to accomplish the ministry God is calling and enabling us to do.
What will the building and site development cost?
- Approximately $6 million.
What is the campaign goal?
- $3.5 million has already been committed to this project. As a church body our goal is to raise $1.5 million over the next two years.
Will the campaign goal finance all the building costs?
- No, if we met the goal of $1.5 million we will still need $1 million. We will finance the remainder of the new building with a low interest loan, if needed.
Questions about my gift:
When will I be asked to give?
- We are currently already accepting gifts towards the building campaign. We will formally make a request for commitments on Memorial Day weekend during the Sunday morning worship service.
How long will I have to pay my commitment?
- We are asking for two year commitments.
In what ways can I give?
- You can give cash, appreciated assets or an in-kind gift.
How do I make a gift of appreciated assets?
- The asset should be given to the church, which qualifies for a charitable contribution and avoids capital gains taxes on the appreciation. See Glenn Karsten, elder, if you are planning to give in this way.
What is an in-kind gift and how do I make an In-Kind gift?
- An In-Kind gift is a donation of labor or materials. This type of gift will not be needed for our new facility, but will be necessary for the renovation of our current facility. If willing to contribute in this matter, contact Jeff Lothamer, Executive Pastor.
Other than money are there talents or abilities that I could give?
- Yes, we will be needing people to help with the renovation of our current facility. We will be giving more details of our needs at a later date.
How do I pay my commitment?
- You can pay your commitment in one installment or in multiple installments – weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
- Gifts to this project, like gifts to the operation of the church are deductible.
Can we make a contributions at a later time above our two year commitment?
- Yes, added gifts will be needed and welcomed.
When do we begin giving our pledge?
- June, 2006 – immediately following “Commitment Sunday”
To what should I designate my check?
- Checks should be made out to Grace Church of West Ottawa. In the memo write “Unite” or “Building”.
Questions about the building:
Do we owe any money on our current building?
- No, we are currently debt free.
Why is Grace Church building?
- We are building for a number of reasons. The motivating purpose is a desire to do greater ministry. We believe God is at work and desire to be a light within our community. Building allows us to minister to more people not only on Sunday mornings in our worship service, but also through a variety of other avenues by having use of a gym and more classroom space.
What will the new building contain?
- Our new church will have a sanctuary, nursery and childcare facility, foyer and small group meeting areas, 3 adult classrooms, choir room, 1 office, library and bookstore, and storage.
How many additional parking spaces will be added?
- Approximately 100 new spaces.
Will we be renovating the existing building?
- We are considering renovating our current facility to make better use of the space that is no longer needed due to the new facility. As mentioned earlier, in-kind gifts (donation of labor and material) will be necessary for this renovation.
What will the renovations cost?
- This has yet to be determined. The renovations to the existing building are not part of the $6 million budget. We will be asking the people of Grace Church to contribute their time and abilities to make this happen.
Who is the contractor?
- Dan Vos Construction (design/build)
When will building begin and be finished?
- The goal is to begin in the fall of 2006 and finish sometime in 2008.
Will we be able to reduce costs with donated material and labor?
- Yes & No, not on the new building, but we will look to use donated materials and time for the renovations in the existing building.
